Polk Senior Games is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, meaning it is designated by the IRS as a charitable cause, is exempt from federal income tax and can accept tax-deductible donations. Funding for the Games is raised through entry fees, sponsorships and donations.

Polk Senior Games is sanctioned by the Florida Sports Foundation and the Florida Senior Games State Championships. Some events in Polk Senior Games qualify the top five finishers in each age group to advance to the Florida Senior Games. Polk Senior Games submits the names of those finishers to the Florida Senior Games. Some events in Polk Senior Games are “open” events at the Florida Senior Games, meaning they do not require qualification to enter. Some events in Polk Senior Games are not offered at the Florida Senior Games. The Florida State Senior Games Championships are held in December. The National Senior Games are held bi-annually during odd numbered years. Participants qualify for the National Senior Games through competition at Polk Senior Games and the Florida Senior Games during even numbered years.
